Project Overview
- Size: Fits a standard 750 ml wine bottle (Approx. 10″ circumference and 9.5″ tall, including the cuff).
- Yarn Requirements: Approximately 150 yards of a light worsted weight (Category 4) yarn. The original sample used Lion Brand Wool-Ease (an acrylic/wool blend).
- Hook Size: 4.00 mm (US G/6) or size needed to match gauge.

- Mini Bean Section: 14 stitches = 3″ wide; 9 rows = 2.5″ tall.
- Base Circles: Specific diameter measurements are provided at the end of each base round.
Special Stitch Guides
Turning Chain Note: Unless explicitly stated, turning chains do not count as active stitches throughout this pattern. Each chain-1 space created within the pattern counts as an individual stitch.
- Alternative Double Crochet (Alt-dc): Used instead of a starting chain. Insert the hook into the first stitch, yarn over (yo), and pull up a loop, yo and pull through both loops. Insert hook between the legs of that vertical stitch, yo and pull up a loop, yo and pull through one loop, yo and pull through the remaining loops.
- Back Post Single Crochet (bpsc): Insert your hook from back to front, then around to the back of the designated stitch post. Yo, pull up a loop, yo, and pull through both loops on your hook.
- Mini Bean Stitch (MBS): Insert hook into the stitch, yo, pull up a loop. Yo, insert hook into the same stitch, yo, pull up a loop (4 loops on hook). Yo, and pull through all 4 loops on your hook.

Step-by-Step Pattern Instructions
Part 1: The Base
Using your 4.00 mm hook:
- Round 1: Chain 3 (does not count as a stitch). Work 12 double crochets (dc) into the third chain from your hook. Slip stitch (sl st) to the first dc to join. (12 sts — Base diameter: ~1″)
- Round 2: Work an Alt-dc in the first stitch, then work 1 more dc into that same stitch. Work 2 dc into every remaining stitch around. Join. (24 sts — Base diameter: ~1.8″)
- Round 3: Work an Alt-dc and 1 more dc into the first stitch. Dc in the next stitch. *Work 2 dc in the next stitch, then 1 dc in the following stitch. Repeat from * all the way around. Join. (36 sts — Base diameter: ~2.75″)
- Round 4: Work an Alt-dc in the first stitch, then dc into each of the next 2 stitches. *Work 2 dc in the next stitch, followed by 1 dc in each of the next 2 stitches. Repeat from * around. Join. (47 sts — Base diameter: ~3.5″)
Do not cut your yarn. Move directly to the sides.
Part 2: Sides of the Cozy
(Note: Turn your work only when indicated.)
- Round 1 (Right Side): Ch 1. Back post single crochet (bpsc) into every stitch around. Join with a sl st to the first stitch. (47 sts)
- Round 2 (Right Side): Ch 1. Front post double crochet (fpdc) around the next 8 stitches. MBS in the next stitch, *ch 1, skip 1 stitch, MBS in the next stitch*; repeat from * to * a total of 19 times. Join. Turn. (47 sts, counting both stitches and ch-1 spaces)
- Round 3: Ch 1. MBS in the first stitch, *ch 1, skip 1 stitch, MBS in the next stitch*; repeat from * to * 19 times. Single crochet (sc) into each of the 8 post stitches from the previous row. Join. Turn.
- Round 4: Ch 1. Skip the first 4 post stitches. Work a fpDtr around each of the next 4 post stitches from the previous even-numbered row. Working in front of the stitches you just made, work a fpDtr around each of the 4 skipped post stitches to create the cable twist. MBS in the next stitch, *ch 1, skip 1, MBS in the next*; repeat from * to * 19 times. Join. Turn.
- Round 5: Repeat Round 3.

Part 3: The Ribbed Cuff
The cuff is worked perpendicularly to the top edge using short rows, joining to the body as you go.
- Row 1: Chain 17. Working into the back humps of the chain, half double crochet (hdc) in the 2nd chain from your hook and in the next 14 chains. Work a half double crochet 2 together (hdc2tog) across the next chain and the same body stitch where the chain-17 started. (16 sts)
- Row 2: Sl st into the next stitch along the top edge of the cozy. Turn your work. Working in the Back Loops Only (BLO), hdc in each of the 16 stitches. Turn. (16 sts)
- Row 3: Ch 1. BLO hdc in the first 15 stitches. Work a BLO hdc2tog using the last stitch of the row and the next unworked stitch along the cozy’s top edge. (16 sts)
- Row 4: Skip the next stitch along the top edge of the cozy, then sl st into the following stitch along the edge. Turn. BLO hdc across all 16 stitches. Turn. (16 sts)
- Rows 5–33: Alternating, repeat Rows 3 and 4, finishing with a Row 3 repeat.
Assembly & Finishing
- Seam the Cuff: Line up the stitches of your first and last rows together (overlaying the final row on top of the foundation row). Slip stitch through both loops of the final row and the back loops only of the starting row all the way across to join the cuff cleanly.
- Finishing Touches: Fasten off your yarn and securely weave in any remaining loose ends. Fold the ribbed cuff in half downward over the body of the cozy. For a professional, high-end look, attach a custom faux-leather, cork, or wooden accent label to the folded brim.
